Fabio, my brother, who turns 30 today!

Today my brother turns 30! 🙂

I will be far from home, as usual, but feel sad not to have the chance to celebrate it with him.

I wanna use this page to wish my brother not only Happy Birthday, but the best he can have and guess in life.

Typical Fabio!

I shared a lifetime with my brother. So many great moments as well as many tragic ones. He is my rock, we support each other since we are children, he is the most precious of all the gift I got in life.

Two years ago around this period we went to Scotland for a road trip that turned up to be one of the best travel moments ever in my life. I discover my brother to be not only my best friend, but also my best travel mate ever. I didn’t know that, and up there, in Scotland, we discovered each other so much more and found out a very strong connection was linking us forever.

2010 had been a very difficult year for both, many stories in our family had finished tragically and we needed to spend some time together in order to get the strength to keep going. So, rather than spending time crying on each other shoulder, I thought the best way to be together would have been going somewhere, discovering something new and sharing some adventures together. And what a better place than Scotland to do that. I always knew he would have loved that place. When I left Scotland in 2004 I promised to myself and to him to show him that amazing country one day.

And indeed Scotland gave us some of the most precious time together, ever.

Pipe Parade

Edinburgh seemed to have prepared her most beautiful attractions just for us. I couldn’t wait to show him the castle and what a better time than watching it for the first time by night, from Prinsess Street, the night we arrived. It was outstanding and made me fall in love with that town again in a second. The day after the pipe Parade crossed the town just when we stepped in the Royal Mile. It was simply amazing. In the evening we assisted to the Tattoo Festival, enchanted by those artists from all over the world, the music, the lights, the atmosphere was the perfect one to get into the Scottish vibes. We spent there some beautiful days in Edinburgh before heading North, towards Aberdeen, driving through the whole East coast.

We sitted for hours on a cliff admiring the ruins of the Dunnottar Castle, then we followed the Wiskey paths, we drove towards Skye on the west Coast crossing all the Highlands, amazing isolated landscapes of mountains and lochs who took our breaths away and whose memories still now give us a smile on our face. We found ourselves in the middle of nowhere, sharing amazing travel emotions, sometimes in silent, sometimes fighting, sometimes talking for hours.

Wilderness in the Scottish Highlands

We stayed in Skye where we went to Nest Point to see one of the most beautiful spot of this country, we went to drink whiskey at the Talisker brewery, on the way back we stopped in front of the Eilean Donan Castle to contemplate a bit so much power and beauty, we then headed South to Oban, where we had the best fresh fish dish ever from the local market, we crossed the biggest valley of Scotland, we even stopped to visit the eldest tree of the world and finally after 10 days we went back to Edinburgh.

It was not the trip in itself, which was already as beautiful as you can only imagine, it was the atmosphere that was unforgettable. We talked for days and days on the road. We share thoughts, sorrows, prospective, we found ourselves back again and we discovered each other as best travel mates ever. I discovered my brother to be a traveler in his soul. He never got tired or bored of all the thousands rides I usually want to make when I travel. He was actually happy to do that with me, curios and passionate.

We promised each other to do it more and more often and I am sill looking forward to another trip with him.

Today my brother turns 30 and I wish him not only the best but that every single thought and wish and hope may become true, as he deserves it like no other in the world.

My brother is my rock, my consellor, my advisor, but most of all my best friend, the person that I love the most and the only person I fully trust in my life.

Happy birthday bro!

Looking forward to celebrate with you soon again… with a beer, of course! 🙂

I and Fabio, my brother

Oggi, 7 agosto, mio fratello compie 30!

Fabio typical joking face

On the road of Scotland

No, lui era contento e curioso di scoprire con me.

Io e Fabio
