Definitely one of the richest itinerary to drive through in Iceland, the road from Reykjavik to Hofn can only astonish you if, combined with with the Golden Circle, is driven all in one day.

So much to see, too much maybe to be handled in 12 hours drive, while dealing with a cold and windy weather, snow, rain and beauty all over.

Entering the inland via the Golden Circle is the perfect way to welcome Johannes and Frank from TraveTelly into the magic world of My Magic Iceland. “It seems to be driving on the moon”, Frank said, as soon as he started to drive to Geysir, among amazing white sceneries , smoky surprising sites, the wonder of Gullfoss just defrost from one of the coldest winter Iceland remembers, and the Geysir itself that, despite the cloudy weather, remains one of the most amazing sites of this island.

But it is when we have started to drive along the South Coast that the beauty came to us. A stop at Seljalandfoss and Skogarfoss was due, despite the snow and the wind together. And then, after Skogarfoss, few kilometers aways, when we finally found the small gate on the side of the road going to the plane wreck on the beach, one of the most mesmerizing sites of Iceland appeared.

Difficult to find but well worth the effort!

The road suddenly disappeared, cancelled by the black sand all over as we turned right hoping to find what we were looking for. The beach hided the wreck until the last minute, but discovering it and finding in front of you such a famous and still unknown site, forgotten by the rest of the world, probably the only site of Iceland without any tourist around, was really a great excited feeling. The plane crashed 50 years ago on the beach and was left there, while all the crew survived. It is impressive, and its white colors in that black scenery leaves you speechless about one of the most incredible black and white contrasts of such an amazing place. Iceland never stops astonishing you, making you fall in love with its hidden secrets, its alive Nature, its colors, its beauty. It is an eternal promise to come back, to love her forever.

The road trip continued to Dyrolhaey, on the top of eternal stormy cliffs, where the ocean is in a constant fight to steal life to those beaches of darkness.

It is 5pm and we are just in Vik, with a long way ahead before getting to Hofn. On the way we stop other several times because in the afternoon the weather gets better and a red sunset waits for us along the road first and at the Glacier Lagoon later, just to put an end to a very long, exhausting but still wonderful day of filming, shooting traveling and enjoying our life on the road.

Nothing better than a stunning sunset to end such a great day on the road!

Today was unforgettable though, and when the Northern ligths appeared in the sky just few meters before entering Hofn, that sounded like a perfect end of just a perfect day.
