First stop of Vking across africa: Seljalandfoss

So here we go. Still dark outside, engine on, ready to depart from Reykjavk and finally start this adventure that is gonna finish only in round 6 months, and on the other side of the world.

Yesterday at 6pm we met in a pub downtown Reykjavik to know each other and prepare the departure. This morning we met at the truck at 9. Beautiful to see it fr the first time in the darkness of Iceland shining in its bright orange and realize not only that it really exists but also that this trip I finally starting.

Inside the truck, getting familianr wth each other

So we met there. We all arrived full of bags sleeping bags and all the necessary for the trip, but mostly we all arrived with a smile and the excitement of something new and amazing . None of us had properly slept last night, and how could we? And now in the truck after the first few hours of excitement everybody literally collapsed in a deep sleep.

So this morning we left. We are still not all, as some will join us in Malaga. We are heading to Vik, where we will spend the first night there, right in the South of Iceland.

The truck can go up to 55 Kms/hr so this is going to be really our house for the next few moths.

Tomorrow we will be heading East, to Hofn we will stop at the Glacier Lagoon, then to Egilstadir where we are going to the ferry on Wednesday, direction Far Oer and then Denmark. We will spend 3 nights on the ferry, hoping the sea will be calm and most of all that I can see the Northern Lights.

Good news is that crossing Europe we are going to stop to Montpellier, Barcelona and Alicante where some of my best friends live. It will be good to meet them, making them become part of this amazing adventure.

So here we are right now: in the truck, somewhere eetween Reykjavik and Vik.

Today Africa seems a step closer but at the same time, looking outside the window of the truck, it seems also kilometers and kilometers far away from here, and the distance looks huge.

View from the truck

At the moment of writing we are in the middle of the Icelandic nowhere. Outside is all brown and infnite. We are now at Seljalandfoss for a dive into the beauty of this place.

Last time I came year it was ll frozen, the ice had take possession of this amazing corner of the world. This time there was no snow or ice, we walked behind the waterfall, that was much stronger in water than last time. It’s a funny day. Everything seems still unread. It feels like a day trip, but actually it isn’t, and we just have to realize it.

My travel mates are cool people, I will introduce you to them in the next posts. We are a happy mix of Icelanders and the rest of world, that’ why the world looks much smaller from the top of this truck.

On the first day we have to organize ourself, understand how we are going to spend the long time we will be sit in here for the next six months. It’ normal. We have the music, we have books, we have good company. And we have lots of time to fully enjoy this adventure…

Myself back at Seljalandfoss

Our sleeping bags

Alcuni ci raggiungeranno a Malaga fra 20 giorni. Ora stiamo andando a Vik, dove passeremo la prima notte, a Sud dell’Islanda.

The truck, my new home

E soprattutto abbiamo tanto tempo per godercelo tutto.
